When combined with an HP 8662A Synthesizer and a baseband spectrum analyzer, the HP 11729C Carrier Noise Test Set provides a broadband measurement system for phase noise and AM noise measurements on microwave oscillators, 10 MHz ... 18 GHz (optional), HPIB controllable. A built-in SAW filter can also be configured as an oscillator. This allows the 11729C to be used as a frequency discriminator system for measurements on free-running oscillators. In this discriminator mode, the 11729C operates as a standalone unit, used only with an external delay line and an available baseband analyzer.
