The noise figure test set combines in one test set the simplicity of double-sideband measurements with the accuracy of single-sideband measurements. Sophisticated technology and powerful components such as the stable YIG filter enable single-sideband measurements in the range from 10 MHz to 18 GHz with a single calibration and sweep. An integrated low-noise preamplifier reduces the system noise figure, greatly improving measurement confidence. The HP 8970 A/B noise figure meter provides operating modes for double downconversion. In this setup, the HP 8971 B functions as the second downconversion unit. These operating modes can be used to measure millimeter waves of amplifiers and semiconductors, and to measure intermediate frequencies above 1.6 GHz of receivers and mixers.
