Lightwave transmission systems require accurate and repeatable characterization of their electro-optical, optical, and electrical components to guarantee high-speed performance. The Agilent 8702 A lightwave component analyzer improves the design and specification of these lightwave components. It operates by analyzing a swept frequency signal modulating a 1300 or 1550 nm optical carrier. The HP 8702 A measures each of the transmission elements of a high-speed fiber optic system. This unit features calibrated frequency response measurements of fiber optic components, and has a measurement range of 300 kHz to 6 GHz. The frequency and wavelength are determined by an external source and receiver module. Transducers (lightwave source and receivers) allow it to operate at 850, 1300, and 1550 nm.
